SYKESVILLE, MARYLAND - March 17, 2004. S&K Roofing, Siding and

elected to include the Books and Bears outreach
program at Stedwick Elementary School as one of
the company’s many donation recipients. The
company gave the school a donation of $1500 to
cover the full cost of purchasing teddy bears
for the program. Ms. Denise Fitzgibbon’s 5th
grade class at Stedwick Elementary School,
located in Montgomery Village, Montgomery
County, Maryland created the program to help the
many children in Children’s Hospital. The
program provides books to help the children
learn as well as pass their time in the
hospital, and teddy bears so that the children
have a new friend to keep them company.
“When Ms. Fitzgibbons’s class asked for our
donation, I was touched and inspired by their
dedication. The children used a class
assignment – writing persuasive letters – to ask
for our help.” stated Maija Kropp, Vice
President of S&K Roofing, Siding and Windows.
“Our company gets hundreds of requests for
donations each year, but this one was special.
It gave us the opportunity to give back to the
community, and to help show Ms. Fitzgibbon’s
class how their persuasive writing skills can
pay off.”
Through many generous donations, including the
donation from S&K Roofing, Siding and Windows,
the school obtained 617 books, 150 bears and an
additional $1500 for Children’s Hospital’s
Doctor Bear Closet. The bears each come with a
tag that reads, “Books and Bears Because We
Care…From the Children of Stedwick Elementary.”
