ELDERSBURG, MD. January 6, 2009 - S&K Roofing, Siding
and Windows (SKRoofing.com)
announced today another successful food drive - its fifth consecutive
drive to benefit the Maryland Food Bank (MDFoodBank.org).
This year, S&K collected food and other non-perishable items at their
showroom in Eldersburg from November 4 through December 18. On December
18, team members at S&K, including owner Don Katzenberger and sales
director and food drive coordinator Charlie McCurry, packed up the
donations and headed to the food bank. Upon arrival, the food was
weighed in at just over 2,000 pounds and Katzenberger wrote a check on
the spot for $2,000 and presented it to the Maryland Food Bank.
"We are on target to distribute close to 17 million pounds of food in
Fiscal Year 2009. This is three million more pounds than we distributed
last fiscal year. It's wonderful to see this increase in donations,
especially during these harsh economic times," says CEO of the Maryland
Food Bank, Deborah Flateman. "Demand has increased between 25-50 percent
since January 2008, making all donations that we get crucial. Donations
from companies like S&K really do make a difference."
"The community support we see year to year is remarkable," stated
McCurry. "Even in tough times like these it is nice to see that people
who may not have much of their own are still able to give to others."
Large food and monetary donations from local organizations like EcoStar
(EcoStar.Carlisle.com),
the Marquis Foundation (MarquisFoundation.org)
and Brave New Markets (BraveNewMarkets.com)
helped a great deal. Together with individual donations, we achieved
another successful food drive," added McCurry.
