injured soldier wheelchair accessible —
August 28, 2007 – ELDERSBURG, MD – S&K Roofing, Siding and Windows (SKRoofing.com) announced today its participation in the launch of the Heroes at Home program, which is improving the lives of military families in need across America.
As one of the first beneficiaries of Heroes at Home, Army Specialist Ryan C. Major of Silver Spring, Md., receives an extreme home makeover as dozens of volunteers and several home improvement companies, including S&K Roofing, Siding and Windows, install a new elevator as well as a wheelchair-accessible bedroom, bathroom and a deck onto his house.
Major was injured during Operation Iraqi Freedom. While on patrol searching for suspected bomb makers, an improvised explosive device detonated near his squad, resulting in Major losing both of his legs.
“We owe so much to the men and women who serve our country. This is one small way in which we can show them how much we appreciate what they have given to protect us”, stated Don Katzenberger, president of S&K Roofing, Siding and Windows.
Heroes at Home
The Heroes at Home program was established in the summer of 2007 as the result of a partnership between Rebuilding Together (RebuildingTogether.org), the nation’s largest volunteer-driven, non-profit home rehabilitation organization, and the Sears Holding Corporation (SearsHoldings.com). The program seeks to improve the lives of military families in need by making necessary repairs, improvements and modifications to their homes.
Tradition of Giving
S&K Roofing, Siding and Windows has a long-standing tradition of financial giving to a number of charitable organizations such as The American Red Cross, Children’s Hospital and The Johns Hopkins Cancer Center. In addition, every holiday season, S&K includes its employees, contractors, vendors and customers in an annual food drive that benefits the Maryland Food Bank. This is the first time that S&K has donated time and materials to benefit the Heroes at Home program
