— Grand Champion hog soars to $30 per pound in exciting bidding frenzy —
ELDERSBURG, Md. August 19, 2009 – S&K Roofing, Siding and Windows (SKRoofing.com) continued their support of the Howard County Fair for the 9th consecutive year by taking part in the 4-H livestock auction, held on Friday evening, August 14th. This year, although not able to walk away with the Grand Champion hog, S&K owner Don Katzenberger gave it a valiant effort, bidding head-to-head with Giant Food and ultimately driving the price to a record-high $30 per pound.
Although the Grand Champion hog was not in the cards for them this year, Katzenberger and the S&K team still considers the event a success. They were able to bid on and purchase two hogs and a steer, and the company manned a 10’x30′ exhibit in the main hall throughout the week.
“That was by far the most exciting 4-H auction we’ve participated in,” stated Katzenberger. “You know it’s all for a good cause, and you just get so caught up in it at the moment! We can’t imagine a better way to support the kids that work so hard every year to raise these prize-winning animals. This country was built by hard-working families like the farmers of Howard County. These kids are our future and we are proud of their accomplishments.”
The 64th Annual Howard County Fair was held in West Friendship, Maryland from August 8th to August 15th, 2009. The 4-H livestock auction typically marks the finale of the fair each year, with proceeds going in part to the 4-H youth members who help raise animals for
the auction.
