— Home Winterization Checklist reveals ways to avoid costly damages —
ELDERSBURG, MD. December 3, 2009 – S&K Roofing, Siding and Windows (SKRoofing.com) released today its Home Winterization Checklist to help homeowners prepare for the harsh weather conditions predicted for the 2009 / 2010 winter season.
Weak El Nino conditions have forecasters predicting what could be the coldest winter in more than a decade. The popular 2010 Farmers’ Almanac (farmersalmanac.com) supports these predictions, stating that this winter about three-quarters of the nation, including the Northeast, will see temperatures averaging below normal.
“Our area has been spared a truly harsh winter for a few years now. We’re not as confident this year that we’ll be so lucky. We are advising our customers to prepare their homes for the worst,” said Don Katzenberger, President at S&K Roofing, Siding and Windows.
“Our Home Winterization Checklist will help homeowners get their homes ready for potentially damaging weather conditions and help lower their energy bills,” added Katzenberger.
Highlighting Problem Areas
The home improvement experts at S&K highlight some important areas to help homeowners prepare their home such as checking the condition of their roof to prevent heat loss, leaks and ice damming. S&K also recommends that gutters be checked regularly to ensure the proper flow of water away from the home.
Additionally, ENERGY STAR® approved products such as attic insulation and windows are recommended for increased energy efficiency. The complete checklist is available at no charge to homeowners on the S&K Roofing, Siding and Windows website at SKRoofing.com/Winter.
