Window & Skylight Rebates Available in Maryland & DC
Signed into law in August 2022, the federal Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) includes climate initiatives that provide rebates and tax credits to Maryland and DC residents making energy-efficient home improvements, including installing new ENERGY STAR® windows and skylights.
Local and federal programs offer significant incentives that allow you to transition to a more environmentally friendly home and save money. Since 1980, S&K Roofing, Siding, and Windows has helped Maryland, North Virginia, and DC-area homeowners update their properties with new energy-efficient windows and skylights.
Rebates for Window Replacement & Added Energy Efficiency
Have you been waiting for the right moment to replace your home’s outdated or leaky windows? Now’s the time you’ve been waiting for! By installing exterior windows that meet ENERGY STAR® requirements, you become eligible for tax credits that reduce your costs.
Qualifying windows include:
- Single- and double-hung vertical and horizontal sliders
- Casement style, including awning, projected, hopper, etc.
- Fixed or picture
- Sliding glass patio doors
- Skylights and tubular daylighting devices
The current tax credit for qualifying replacement windows is 30% of the costs up to $600. Insulation and air sealing materials are also eligible for a 30% credit.
Skylight Installation Rebates & Credits
Skylights are a fantastic addition to any room. They provide abundant natural light that brightens the space, creates an inviting atmosphere, and reduces the need for daytime artificial lighting, meaning reduced utility bills.
Natural light has been shown to enhance mood, increase productivity, and contribute to a home’s overall comfort and enjoyment. When you replace or install one or more skylights in your Maryland, Virginia, or DC home, you qualify for a 30% tax credit up to $600.
There is no lifetime limit for federal window and skylight credits. The limits are determined yearly. That means you can claim the maximum credit allowed annually for eligible improvements.

The transition to more energy-efficient homes is expected to save families in our region an average of $1,000 per year. Taking advantage of available tax credits and rebates makes upgrading your home easier and more affordable than ever.
You could also be eligible for state incentives along with federal tax credits. For instance, the Maryland Energy Administration offers grants and loans for homeowners who replace windows and rebates to reduce electricity usage. In DC, the District of Columbia Sustainable Energy Utility (DCSEU) helps district residents save up to 10% on energy-efficient windows.
Remember that while some incentives are available for DIYers, many require a professional installer to do that work. Backed by over 30 years of service, S&K Roofing installs high-quality, energy-efficient windows and skylights for residents throughout the greater Maryland and DC region.
